“Helping the people we care for and the families we believe in”
Native Americans Program-
Angels with Blue Jeans (ABJ) helps Native American children and their families seeking the simplest of life's necessities - home, health and happiness. Many Native American children and their families find it a daily struggle to meet their basic household needs of adequate food and shelter. Secondarily, but as important, many Native American children find it difficult to meet their basic health needs (physical and mental). Finally, Native American children and their families stumble to overcome hurdles that keep them from obtaining happiness.ABJ believes that a "can do" approach is necessary to overcome the challenges faced by Native American children and their families. ABJ also understands that it is essential to have staff that understand the needs of Native American children and their families and are capable of providing culturally specific services for the Native American children and their family members. When basic human services are needed, most Native Americans children and their families, due to lack of funding/resources, are placed on waiting lists or rejected/denied services. When they do eventually receive support/services, it often lacks cultural specificity and adequacy. Because of this, the Native American family will, oftentimes, not return for additional services, despite desperately needing the support/service.ABJ can and does overcome these barriers by conducting a thorough and culturally specific assessment of the entire family and by assisting the family with obtaining the necessary services in the community. ABJ staff are available to work with community organizations as advisors/consultants to ensure that adequate and culturally relevant services are provided on behalf of Native American children and their families.
ABJ believes that no need is too small and no barrier to great, including cultural and language barriers. ABJ will never give up when a family becomes stuck working through complex administrative processes in their attempts to obtain services. ABJ will never give up when a necessary service is unavailable in the community. ABJ will find someone to meet the need of the Native American child and their family.ABJ provides hope for Native American children and their families by assisting them to meet their basic human needs of home, health and happiness.ABJ currently provides services in the states of California and Utah, with plans to expand into other states serving Native American families.
